Unlike most present day trainers Dave was not born in the business, as a child growing up in Connecticut, his father, an avid racing fan took him to the races in Massachusetts and Rhode Island where he fell in love with the excitement of horse racing.

In 1976 while stationed in Maine working for the U.S. Coast Guard, he would attend the races at Scarborough Downs and the local Fairs. Deciding to buy a horse and not having the experience he called a horse boarding stable who directed him to a Standardbred trainer. He then bought his first horse and was instantly hooked, spending every offduty moments learning the business. With luck he hooked up with top local trainers that took the time to teach him the trade and he soon obtained his USTA trainers license.

Subsequently a transfer brought him to Northern Maine where from 1980-1984 Dave trained a stable of horses at Bass Park in Bangor, Maine. During the remainder of his career he was stationed at various places where he continued to own, train and race at local Standardbred Race tracks.

From 1992-1998 he operated a mid-size stable at Pompano Park. The last two years of his 30 year career he was stationed in the New Orleans area where he owned/trained Thoroughbred horses as no Standardbred horse racing was available. May 6th, 2000 he established his Standardbred horse racing stable at Pompano Park in Florida, deciding to choose Pompano because of the beautiful weather and the pending passage of a slot bill that would dramatically increase the purse structure. Dave choose to remain relatively small until the arrival of the slots as it would be difficult for the average owner to turn a profit with the then existing purse structure.

The last 8 years Dave has spent operating the stable in the winter at Pompano and summers in Canada. During this period the stable has been successful with horses trained by Mogan setting two track records. The stable has twice been recognized by Pompano Park by having their horses selected as "Horse Of The Month."
